Vevor CNC3040
I knew I was taking a bit of a gamble when I bought this Chinese CNC machine. The one thing it has going for it is that it is pretty solid and a VERY conventional design. It's the kind of machine one could reverse engineer when exploring one's own design. The exact same machine, with varying controllers and motors appears under many different handles on Amazon and elsewhere.
January 19 2023 I used the machine to cut a hole in acrylic as part of the fume enclosure for the genmitsu, and since then it has developed some backlash in the X axis. Can't say I'm surprised, because this kind of problem seems universal among these Chinese machines.
January 2023 It seems that Vevor has discontinued this particular model, and has introduced some others. I'm not convinced the newer models are much of a step up, but perhaps they solve this Vevor models' shortcomings: absence of limit switches, Mach controller (rather than GRBL), and absence of spindle speed software control. You can set the speed of the spindle manually, and it works well, but software controlled spindle speed is a kind of basic. Thankfully, there are many YouTube videos on how to upgrade and modify it, so I think that's what I'll do.
